Sepa forms team to enforce ban on non-degradable plastic bags

KARACHI: The Sindh Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) has constituted 25 monitoring teams to reinforce the already enacted ban on manufacture, sale, purchase and use of non-degradable plastic bags across province.

According to a press release, the teams will visit small markets, shopping centres, bazaars and shops on a daily basis and take on-the-spot legal action against those vendors selling the goods in banned plastic bags.

A team of Sepa visited shops in Khori Garden, Yusuf Market, Anjum Center and Burhani Center of Jodia Bazaar in district South.

Various teams of Sepa have been taking frequent action to enforce the ban on the production, sale, purchase, and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags throughout the province on the instructions of caretaker Environment Minister Arshad Wali Muhammad.

It said that on the directives of the minister regular action was being taken against smoke-emitting vehicles across Sindh.

Acting director general of Sepa, Waris Ali Gabol, directed officials concerned to ensure implementation of all environmental laws across the province.
