Clothes distributed among needy in Attock

TAXILA: Winter clothes were distributed among 202 deserving persons, including women, children and jail inmates under the auspices of the district social welfare department in Attock on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner Attock Rao Atif Raza was the chief guest on the occasion.

The Punjab social welfare department came forward to distribute warm clothes to less privileged people, especially homeless and vulnerable people, including 81 men, 60 women and 61 children, as well as inmates of the district jail.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Raza said for the first time, street children selling small items at roundabouts and prisoners were given winter clothes so that they could survive in the harsh conditions created by the cold winter.

Mr Raza also shed light on spending on unprivileged individuals in society in light of the teachings of the Holy Quran and Hadith and stressed the need for everyone to actively take part in such activities.

Social welfare officer Mohammad Zubair said the deserving individuals were shortlisted after strict scrutiny.

He said not only data of enlisted deserving people of social welfare and Pakistan Baitul Maal was obtained, but also data of social welfare services of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) was utilised while selection for the distribution of warm clothes.

He said the department was in service of humanity in each and every circle of life, adding that the department’s winter package distribution aimed to protect the needy and poverty-stricken people from cold and diseases.
