Commissioner wants ECP’s code of conduct enforced in upcoming polls

TAXILA:Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Syed Khurram Ali on Wednesday emphasised on the importance of national responsibility for conducting the upcoming elections and urged all officers to work with dedication and ensure implementation of the code of conduct set by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

They were presiding over a meeting held to review election preparations and implementation of the code of conduct in Attock.

Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Revenue Waqas Aslam Marth Additional Deputy Commissioner General Adnan Anjum Raja, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Maleeha Essar, District Election Commissioner Attock Noor Al Khattab, District Monitoring Officer Imran Ahmed and representatives from all six tehsils, including returning officers and assistant returning officers, attended the meeting.

The district election commissioners, DROs and district monitoring officers provided detailed briefings on security plans, establishment of polling stations and CCTV camera installations at highly sensitive polling stations, communication and health plans and measures for enforcing the code of conduct.

Addressing participants, Commissioner Chattha asked the deputy commissioner and assistant commissioners to finalise logistics and contingency plans for presentation in the next meeting.

“Sensitive polling stations should be identified and CCTV cameras installed there. Transportation arrangements for election staff and security officers should also be ensured,” he said.

Regional Police Officer Syed Khurram Ali stressed on the need to take steps on a priority basis for holding fair and transparent elections by providing all facilities at polling stations.

He said the ECP’s monitoring teams should remain active to ensure the implementation of the election code of conduct in all six tehsils of Attock.

Briefing participants, Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza said arrangements were being made for elections on two National Assembly and five provincial assembly seats in the six tehsils of Attock. As many as 1,017 polling stations had been established throughout the district where 11,664 personnel would perform duties, he said, adding that all candidates had been instructed to follow the code of conduct issued by the ECP.
