10,000 security officials to perform duty on election day in capital

ISLAMABAD: About 10,000 officials of police and other security agencies will perform security duty in Islamabad during the upcoming election, police said on Wednesday.

In this regard, a ban has been imposed on policemen’s holidays, they said, adding that besides it was also under consideration to reinstate the suspended official, including over 70 officials who have been suspended during the last two months to overcome the manpower shortage.

The security plan has been finalised at a meeting chaired by Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan. The meeting was attended by all divisional Capital Police Officers, AIG Operations, SSP Operations and DPOs, decided that the federal capital will be divided into eastern and western parts under the administrative supervision of DIG level officers for ensuring effective security measures, the police said.

Assistance of retired police officials and officers and volunteers will also be taken to meet the requirement of the manpower during the polling day for security, additional backup and disciplinary duties, the police said, adding that capital administration was also requested for 500 women volunteers for the women polling stations in Islamabad.

However, all measures are delayed for want of funds, they added.

The polling stations were also divided in different categories. CCTV cameras linked with the Safe City Authority will also be installed at the most sensitive and sensitive polling stations.

In this regard a control room will also be set up at the authority’s headquarters.

Before, during and after the polling day there will be complete ban on displaying weapons, firing in jubilation and protest, they added.
