Pakistan, St. Kitts & Nevis establish diplomatic ties

WASHINGTON: Pakistan and the Caribbean nation of St. Kitts and Nevis officially established diplomatic relations on Thursday at a ceremony held at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

Ambassador Munir Akram, the country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, and his counterpart, Dr Mutryce Williams, signed a joint communiqué solidifying the diplomatic bond.

Ambassador Akram highlighted the potential for collaboration across various sectors, including finance, trade, investment, and information technology. He emphasised that this diplomatic milestone would foster closer and more meaningful interaction between the two nations, facilitating the exchange of experience for mutual benefit.

Ambassador Akram said he anticipates a renewed partnership with St Kitts and Nevis at both bilateral and multilateral forums.

In response, Dr Williams said despite the geographical distance between the two countries, she noted a history of mutual respect and goodwill.

She said that establishing diplomatic ties was a gateway to collaboration in fields such as trade, tourism, and education.
