PCB forms Board of Governors

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday announced the composition of its Board of Governors (BoGs) in accordance with Paragraph 10 of the 2014 PCB Constitution.

Now the ten-member BoGs will elect PCB chairman for a three-year term within the next seven days.

Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the current caretaker chief minister of Punjab, and Mustafa Ramday are included in the BoGs as two nominees of the prime minister, who is patron-in-chief of the PCB. The remaining eight members come equally from regional cricket associations and departments.

The BoGs could not be notified by two Interim Management Committees (IMCs) of the PCB. The first IMC was formed in December and headed by Najam Sethi, who also received a two-month extension. The Sethi-led IMC was followed by a Zaka Ashraf-headed interim body which worked for almost seven months.

Mohsin is tipped to become new PCB chairman as he is believed to be very close to powerful circles.

The complete list of BoGs comprises Mustafa Ramday, Mohsin Raza Naqvi (both PCB Patron’s nominees), Sajjad Ali Khokhar (president Regional Cricket Association AJK), Zafarullah Jadgal (president Regional Cricket Association Dera Murad Jamali), Tanveer Ahmed (President Regional Cricket Association Larkana), Tariq Sarwar (president Regional Cricket Association Bahawalpur), representative of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), representative of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), representative of Ghani Glass Limited, representative of Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV), and secretary to the government of Pakistan, Ministry of Inter-provincial Coordination, or any other officer nominated by him as an ex-officio member (non-voting member).

It may be mentioned here that the BoG members from regions and departments are almost the same who were picked by Sethi. However, later Sethi made another BoGs in the last meeting he chaired before Zaka came as the nominee of the prime minister.

Zaka was not satisfied with the BoGs formation of Sethi as the matter delayed further.

On Jan 16, Zaka summoned a meeting in Karachi to finalise the BoGs but the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination stopped him from holding any such meeting.

Zaka was called to Islamabad by the IPC and after that meeting he resigned as PCB chairman.

Subsequently, chief election commissioner of the PCB Shah Khawer took the additional charge of acting PCB chairman, who formed the BoGs in three days.
