15 PTI workers remanded in police custody in terrorism case in Karachi

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court remanded 15 workers of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in police custody for two days in a case pertaining to staging an “unlawful” rally at Teen Talwar in Clifton, resorting to violence and terrorism.

The held activists, along with “around 5,000 workers and leaders” have been booked in a terrorism case registered at the Frere police station on behalf of the state.

The investigation officer brought the 15 PTI workers before the ATC judge and requested for their 14 -day physical remand. However, the ATC judge remanded them in police custody for two days for further investigation.

DIG-South Syed Asad Raza said that 66 leaders including Khurram Sher Zaman, Faheem Khan, Saeed Afridi, Dr Baracha and others “instigated around 5,000 workers to resort to violence during a rally at Teen Talwar on Sunday.

He said that they “challenged the writ of the state by vandalising public property, assaulting uniformed policemen, resorting to aerial firing to spread terror in area and raising slogans against the police”.

He said that seven policemen sustained injuries and the condition of one of them, Boat Basin SHO Mohammed Riaz, was said to be critical.
