PTI MPA-elect loses contest in result consolidation

TOBA TEK SINGH: The PTI-backed independent candidate from PP-122 (Toba) Sardar Khawar Sher Gadhi, who was earlier declared winner by the returning officer as per Form 45 and 47 results, has now been declared defeated after result consolidation and vote recount.

According to the new result issued by RO Anwar Baig on Tuesday, PML-N candidate retired Col Sardar Ayub Gadhi secured 69,538 votes, defeating the PTI-backed Sardar Khawar Sher Gadhi, who obtained 69,250 votes. The RO declared Ayub Gadhi winner by a margin of 288 votes.

Previously, Khawar Gadhi was declared winner by a margin of 1,727 votes.

Khawar, who had boycotted the result consolidation and vote recount process, told the media that he would move court against the RO’s fresh decision.

He alleged that hundreds of valid votes cast in his favour were cancelled after double stamping by the RO.

TWO DIE: Two brothers died and their driver was injured critically after their car collided with the iron shoulder along the M-4 motorway near Gojra interchange.

According to motorway police, two brothers, identified as Riaz and Zafar Iqbal, of Chak 25 Janoobi, Sargodha, were on their way to Multan by a car, driven by Maqsood Ahmad.

The police say that apparently the driver dosed off and the car hit the iron railing along the road.

As a result, Riaz and Zafar died on the spot, while driver Maqsood, who was critically injured, was shifted to Gojra THQ Hospital for treatment.

GIRL RAPED: A man allegedly raped a girl at Chak 363-JB, Gojra, on Tuesday.

According to the FIR registered by Gojra Sadar police on the complaint of Waris Maseeh, his daughter was alone in the house when the suspect entered the premises by scaling the boundary wall, and raped her. The suspect fled away after committing the crime, he added.

Police were conducting raids to arrest the suspects.
