Goods train engine derails at Badami Bagh Railway Station

LAHORE: The locomotive of a goods train derailed at Badami Bagh Railway Station, colliding with a dead-end wall on the platform on Tuesday.

The derailment occurred during attaching and separating wagons from a goods train arriving from Karachi.

Railways Police reported the locomotive unexpectedly derailed, leading to the collision with the platform wall. The incident caused damage to the locomotive and resulted in a disruption to shunting operations for a few hours. Both the driver and assistant driver emerged unharmed.

The occurrence of derailments in Pakistan Railways operations has become a recurring issue, primarily attributed to the deteriorating rail tracks in Punjab and Sindh.

A recent incident involved a freight train en route from Lahore to Narowal, derailing near the Sri Rampura railway station on the Shahdara-Narowal railway section. The derailment caused damage to the railway engine and track.

The engine and freight bogie veered off the track, with the engine sustaining severe damage, including broken rear branches.

The consequential disruption halted Allama Iqbal Express, Lasani Express, and Faiz Ahmad Faiz passenger trains, affecting travel from Lahore to Narowal and inconveniencing thousands of passengers.
