Doctor, two others booked for selling gutka sent to prison
KARACHI: A court on Wednesday remanded a doctor and two employees of a private hospital in judicial custody in a case pertaining to manufacturing and selling gutka.
The investigating officer of the case produced the suspects — Dr Abdullah, Muhammad Akram and Khaleeq — before Judicial Magistrate (West) Syeda Urooj Fatima Naqvi and requested for their 14-day physical remand.
However, the court rejected his request and sent the suspects to prison on judicial remand.
Earlier on Tuesday, the police claimed to have conducted a raid on a private hospital in Baldia Town and arrested a doctor and two employees on charges of selling gutka at the medical store inside the hospital.
Keamari SSP Arif Aslam Rao said that over 50 kilogrammes of gutka was seized from the spot.
He said Dr Abdullah had established a ‘set-up’ inside the private hospital where gutka was being manufactured and sold at the medical store to customers.
