HYDERABAD: The Governor of Sind, Mr Din Mohammad, has asked Mr Yusuf Haroon, the newly-elected leader of the Sind Assembly Muslim League Party, to assist him in the formation of a new ministry for the province, and Mr Haroon as accepted the invitation.

Earlier, at a meeting of the Sind League Assembly party Mr Haroon had been elected leader of the party by a majority of three votes over Mir Ghulam Ali Khan Talpur, the senior member of the two-man “caretaker” ministry which has been in office since Pir Illahi Bakhsh resigned the premiership on Feb 4, following the verdict of an election tribunal which had found him guilty of corrupt practices. Mr Haroon polled 18 votes while Mir Ghulam Ali secured 15 votes.

[Meanwhile, according to a staff correspondent from Karachi,] the Pakistan Parliament discussed for 75 minutes the Finance Minister’s Bill to establish the Pakistan Industrial Finance Corporation — an industrial bank with a capital of Rs 3 crores to provide long-term loans to industries — when the Bill came up for its second reading on Wednesday [Feb 16]. The Bill was introduced in the December session.
