GILGIT: A magnitude-5 earthquake jolted Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday evening, with authorities reporting no casualties or damages in the region so far.

According to initial reports, a magnitude-5 earthquake occurred in GB at around 9:05pm on Monday. The epicentre was about 68km (42 miles) southeast of Gilgit.

The seismic activity also affected neighbouring countries, including India, and China, as reported by Google. The widespread impact has raised concerns about the potential aftermath.

Earthquake tremors were also felt in Skardu, Diamer, Astore, Kharmang, Ghanche, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer districts.

The earthquake created panic, and people came out of their homes.

According to the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority, no damage or casualties have been reported from any part of the region.

Major roads in GB, including the Karakoram Highway and Baltistan Road, have been blocked after landslides caused by rain and snowfall.
