Shopkeeper shot dead in ‘targeted attack’

KARACHI: A shopkeeper, said to be associated with the banned Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), was gunned down in a suspected targeted attack in Orangi Town on late Wednesday night, police said.

Iqbal Market SHO Shah Faisal said Yameen, 32, was sitting at his shop in Sector 11 ½ when armed pillion riders arrived there, opened fire on him and sped away without any loot.

He added that a religious group had claimed that the victim was their ‘supporter’ and, therefore, they were probing the murder from this aspect as well.

Meanwhile, an ASWJ spokesperson said that the deceased shopkeeper was their ‘sympathiser’ and the killing was a targeted attack.

Man gunned down off National Highway

A 65-year-old man was gunned down off National Highway on Thursday.

Shah Latif Town police said that armed pillion riders shot at and killed Noor Mohammed outside his house where he was living alone. The police suspected some personal enmity behind the killing.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

Teenager girl found dead in house

A 13-year-old girl was found dead in Korangi on Thursday night, police and rescue services said.

An Edhi Foundation spokesperson said that the girl was found hanging from the ceiling of her house in Bilal Colony.

Whereas a police spokesperson said that there was a possibility that someone had hanged the girl after subjecting her to a criminal assault.

The roof of the room was so high that it appeared impossible for the girl to commit suicide, he added.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities and the police were investigating the case.
