Two held for trying to get CNICs on fake documents

CHITRAL: The police on Friday arrested an Afghan national and his local facilitator when the officials at the National Database and Registration Authority’s Drosh office informed them about the individuals attempting to get computerised national identity cards on production of fake domicile and birth certificates.

As per FIR registered against the accused in the Drosh police station, assistant director Nadra, Drosh, Sharif Ahmed approached the police with the request to register case against Mohammad Yousuf of Arandu Gol village for facilitating Afghan, Sher Hassan, in obtaining CNIC.

The police registered case against the accused under sections 419, 420, 461, 478 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code and started investigation.

Yousuf admitted to the Nadra staffers that he had got the Afghan included in his family record showing him as his son after taking Rs15,000 from him.

It was the second incident of its nature in Drosh, where Afghans had tried to get Pakistani CNICs with the help of the residents Arandu border village.

DEPARTMENTS WARNED: Chitral tehsil council members on Friday warned the officers of government departments to cooperate with the chairmen of village and neighbourhood councils and provide them with information regarding their respective departments or be ready to face action.

Fakhri Azam, a village council chairman, who presided over the session, took notice of the members’ complaints against officers of various departments for refusing to give them information regarding development works.

He said chairmen of village councils and had been elected by people and they had every right to know about the working of the government departments.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Nabi Khan, Shahid Ahmed, Munir Ahmed Charwelu, Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Abdul Hakim Khan, Wajeehuddin and others.
