SWAT: The residents of various parts of Swat have demanded of government to reduce the duration of power loadshedding as it has badly affected their life.

They said that prolonged electricity loadshedding, stretching over 12 hours in urban areas and up to 16 hours in rural regions, paralysed routine of life. The impact of power outages is deeply felt in Mingora Bazaar, the hub commercial activities in the district.

“Power loadshedding has brought our businesses to a standstill. We cannot operate our shops effectively,” said Ali Khan, the owner of a computer shop in Mingora.

Usually Ramazan is considered a busy month for tailors as they do roaring business before Eidul Fitr. However, local tailors are worried about their business even in Ramazan owing to power outages.

“Ramazan used to be the best season for us. We earn the most in this holy month. But now, we are gloomy to see the long hours of loadshedding affecting our work,” said Ahmad, a tailor.

The frequent power cuts have also disturbed routine of women in the district.

“We cannot even iron clothes for our children, who attend school. It is challenging for us to cook meals and take care of our families,” said Fatima Bibi, a housewife in Mingora.

Prolonged power loadshedding has caused anger and frustration among residents of the district. They demand urgent action to address the issue of power outages.

“The people of Swat are tired of hollow promises and lame excuses of authorities. We demand immediate action to resolve this issue,” said Abdul Rahman, a local community leader.

The prolonged loadshedding has not only affected daily life of people but also posed a threat to the livelihoods of shopkeepers, technicians, and other skilled professionals, who are dependent on reliable and smooth supply of electricity.

“The coming days may witness a wave of protests and demonstrations if the electricity crisis is not addressed promptly and effectively by the relevant authorities,” said locals.
