Police arrest two thieves in Swabi
SWABI: Two members of a gang involved in stealing solar panels, water pumps and batteries from mosques in the district were arrested here on Monday, police said.
DSP Jawad Khan told this scribe that the arrested persons were involved in various cases of theft as well as drug pushing. He said that police conducted an operation in the limits of Zaida police station on the complaints of people. Two members of the gang of thieves involved in stealing solar panels, batteries and water pumps were arrested, he added.
SHO Farooq said that the arrested men admitted that they were involved in different cases. He said that 2,080 grams of hashish and two pistols were also recovered from them. The arrested men were identified as Zahid Khan and Tayyab Khan, residents of Dodher village.
ELECTED: Jalil Ahmad Khan and Muqaddam Khan were elected president and general secretary of Abaseen Union of Journalists Swabi, respectively, here on Monday.
They were elected in a special meeting of AUJ held with senior journalist Shaukat Ali Anjum in the chair. The new president and general secretary vowed that they would work for with dedication for welfare of journalists and promotion of true journalism in the district.
DEMANDED: Qaam Qalam, a literary organisation, here on Monday demanded opening of Pashto department in University of Swabi as soon as possible and making Pashto language a compulsory subject in the curriculum.
The meeting of literary organisation was held with Fazal Babu in the chair. Naveed Shah Manirwal, Ali Zar Khan Ali, Muzamil Khan, Meraj Manirwal, Siraj Mohammad, Waheed Khundawal, Amjad Pakhtunyar and Haji Dilawar Khan attended the meeting.
Naveed Shah said on the occasion that posts of lecturers should be increased in all universities in the province and new posts in other departments should be created to promote Pashto language.
“We urge all literary bodies in the province to make coordinative efforts to force the provincial government to give importance to Pashto language. It should be adopted as medium of instruction in educational institutions,” he said.
