HYDERABAD: Call to stop inflow of poisonous water

HYDERABAD, March 5: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has demanded that the government should stop inflow of poisonous water of Punjab into the Left Bank Outfall Drain.

It said the rich agricultural land of Sindh was being rendered barren due to water-logging and salinity.

A meeting of the chamber held here on Sunday observed that due to the defective design of the LBOD, seawater was gushing into the drain.

It noted that the poisonous water of the LBOD had destroyed lands in the Ghotki district and if the inflow of effluent from Punjab was not stopped, other districts would also be effected.

The meeting, presided over by Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, adopted a resolution calling upon the government to line canals and channels before watercourses.
