BBA student shot dead by robbers in Korangi
KARACHI: A young BBA student was shot dead by armed robbers in the Korangi area late on Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
The Korangi Industrial Area police identified the victim as 22-year-old Muhammad Laraib, who was killed in Allah Wala Town.
The police and his family said that the young student was returning home from a gym when armed robbers intercepted him and demanded his cell phone at gunpoint. As he put up resistance, the robbers opened fire on him and fled.
He suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors pronounced him dead.
Mohammed Hassan, the grief-stricken father, told the media on Tuesday that his son was doing BBA from a private university.
“My son was writing a book and his data was saved in the cell phone; therefore, he put up resistance,” he said.
The victim was engaged and his marriage was expected to take place next year.
CM orders arrest of killers
Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the murder and directed the inspector general of police (IGP) to ensure arrest of Laraib’s killers immediately.
“There is no place for such incidents and students are our precious assets,” Mr Shah said, according to a spokesperson for the CM House. He ordered the police to establish pickets and intensify patrolling to check an alarming rise in the mugging incidents.
On Tuesday, DIG Ghulam Azfar Mahesar suspended the area SHO Faraz Ali Khan and demoted him to the rank of assistant sub-inspector from sub-inspector with immediate effect.
