Justice Shahzad sworn in as LHC chief justice

LAHORE: Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan on Friday took oath as 52nd chief justice of the Lahore High Court in a ceremony held here in the Governor House.

Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman administered the oath to Justice Khan.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz was also present at the ceremony, besides judges, Punjab Assembly speaker, provincial ministers, federal and provincial law officers, Lahore corps commander, inspector general of police (IGP) and officers of the high court.

Family members of the new chief justice also attended the oath-taking ceremony.

On his arrival at the LHC, the new chief justice was presented a guard of honour by a contingent of police.

Chief Justice Khan was born in Pindi Gheb, Attock district, on March 15, 1963.

He did his graduation from Gordon College, Rawalpindi and earned Bachelor’s degree from Punjab University. He obtained his LLB degree from University Law College, Punjab University, Lahore, in 1989.

While he was practicing law, he was elected secretary of the Rawalpindi High Court Bar Association in 2004 and president in 2009.

He was elevated to the bench on May 12, 2011. He will retire on March 14, 2025.

At present, the LHC has 38 judges against a sanctioned strength of 60.
