Boy tortured by schoolteacher succumbs to his injuries

SARGODHA: A class IX student of a private school succumbed to the injuries he suffered at the hands of a teacher four days ago at Badar Ranjha village in the limits of Midhranjah police station, some 40 kilometers from here.

According to police sources, Samiullah (14), son of Saifullah, a resident of Rahimpur village was studying in 9th class in the Punjab Learner School at Badar Ranjha village.

He was allegedly subjected to severe torture by a schoolteacher, Fahad Khurram, four days ago for not learning the lesson, and suffered leg and backbone fractures. He was admitted to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Midhranjha police, after initially showing reluctance, registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of the victim’s father.

Regional Police Officer Shariq Kamal Siddiqui took notice of the incident and summoned a report on it from the district police officer (DPO).

An autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the boy’s death.

The police sources say that the suspect ha secured an interim bail.

The victim’s parents have appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and IGP, seeking justice and an exemplary punishment for the culprit .

SEMINAR: The University of Sargodha (UoS) organised a seminar to highlighting the achievements of the Pakistani women and challenges faced by them in connection with International Women’s Day.

The event was organised by UoS psychology department and counseling centre and the Women Friendly Association (WFA).

UoS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qasir Abbas and WFA president Sajida Shahnawaz addressed the seminar.

Prof Abbas stressed the need for promoting gender parity and creating an environment where women can thrive professionally, academically, and socially.Dr Sajida called for dismantling the barriers and creating opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to community and the world at large.
