MARDAN: Commissioner Shaukat Ali Yousafzai has said that provincial government will be approached to provide funds for completion of ongoing construction work in district headquarters hospital.

He visited the hospital here the other day and inspected ongoing work on OPD block, mosque, hostels and diagnostic block. He was flanked by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Fayaz Khan Sherpao.

The medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Javed Iqbal, and officials of communication and works briefed the commissioner about the ongoing work. They said that more than Rs2 billion was spent on upgrading the health facility to 600-bed hospital.

They said that 85 per cent work was completed. However, they said that funds were needed for completion of the scheme.

The commissioner made a detailed inspection of the construction work. He said that the hospital was located in the centre of Mardan city. He said that there was a lot of rush of patients so it was necessary to complete the ongoing work as soon as possible.

Dr Javed Iqbal stressed the need for connecting the two blocks of the hospital through a link bridge on Shamsi Road. He said that the link bridge would make transfer of patients from old block of the hospital to private rooms easy.

He said that the machinery installed in the new building would be damaged if funds were not provided for completion of the project.

The commissioner assured him that provincial government would be approached for provision of funds to complete the project. He expressed hope that there would be positive progress in that regard soon. He also reviewed the facilities provided to patients in the hospital and directed the administration to ensure maximum facilities to people.

The commissioner along with deputy commissioner also inspected price monitoring desks established by the district administration at the markets of Mardan city.

He directed the staff on duty to take immediate action on the complaints of customers regarding violation of price list.
