Opinion: Be an all-rounder

Education is one of the basic necessities of life to progress and achieve the position with which one can live a happy and a prosper life. Education is the pillar of our society, without which, the progression toward the future would come to a complete standstill and eventually start to regress.

But along with education, a student needs to excel in other skills as well, such as debates, music, painting and sports. Thus, students don’t just become learners; they become explorers, artists, athletes and entrepreneurs, while stepping beyond academics. These extracurricular activities are crucial parts of education, preparing students for life beyond academics.

Whatever the activity students find interesting, indulging in it will give them an incalculable amount of confidence. They develop the feeling of self-worth, find their voice and become ready to face the outside world with a fresh sense of purpose when they do well in any.

In other words, these extracurricular activities, beside regular classes, are like special decorations that make students more impressive. Schools and universities don’t just desire their students to get good grades, they also want students who are creative leaders and can make the student community better. Extracurricular activities help show that you are more than just a name on an application. By doing a variety of activities outside of class, you get to share all the different experiences that make you a unique, well-rounded person.

Furthermore, extracurricular activities aid in the development of crucial social and emotional skills. They offer chances to hone communication skills, foster understanding and cultivate empathy for others. Students learn the value of cooperation, acceptance of diversity, building enduring relationships and fostering harmonious interactions.

Researchers have extensively studied students who participate in extracurricular activities along with their regular academic coursework. The data shows that these students experience excellent improvements in their overall academic performance.

Take for example of a student-cum-athlete, this student will anyhow balance practice schedules with study time. By effectively managing both commitments, the student will develop disciplined habits that benefit him/her in all areas. The skills they cultivate through a balanced lifestyle, such as time management and perseverance, ultimately boost such students’ scholastic achievement.

In short, extracurricular activities are like the final touches that make education complete and well-rounded. They give children the tools they need to succeed not only in school, but in their overall life, filling their futures with the vivid hues of abilities, self-assurance and character.
