Drive to curb food adulteration under way in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Sindh Food Authority (SFA) Director Agha Fakhr on Sunday said that action was being taken against those responsible for adulteration in food and other eatable items.
Addressing a press briefing at the local press club, he said that action was taken against six deputy directors for corruption, and added that there was a shortage of staff in the food department. He hoped that soon fresh recruitment would be made.
He said that efforts were under way to check adulteration in all food items in Hyderabad. He further said that action was taken against sellers of adultrated milk and oil. He said that a food analysis laboratory had been established in Hyderabad and its office was inaugurated.
The official said that food testing laboratories were also working at Sindh University, Jamshoro, and Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. He said medical tests of those dealing in milk business would be conducted and they would be imparted training at Sindh University.
He said 54 standard operating procedures (SOPs) were there for food items which needed to be implemented. He said that unhealthy milk was destroyed recently in Hyderabad.
