Truckers to protest ban on entry to Abbottabad city
ABBOTTABAD: The Hazara Truck Dumper Owners Association has announced to go on strike from Tuesday against a plan by the traffic police to ban their entry to the city during the daytime.
They said that they wouldn’t tolerate the injustice of the traffic police, accusing the cops of depriving them of their sources of livelihood.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, newly-elected general secretary of the association’s Abbottabad chapter Atif Khan Jadoon said that the dumper-trucks were not allowed to enter the city from 7am to 7pm.
He recalled that in the past during Ramazan, trucks were allowed to pass through the main highway, including the city, after 3pm, but this time around they were not allowed to do so.
Mr Jadoon threatened that if the truckers were not allowed to enter the city during the daytime then they would extend their strike across the Hazara division.
He asked the authorities to allow the truckers to enter the city as was the practice in the past to avoid any unpleasant incident.
Meanwhile, the SSP traffic asserted that the new timings were issued by the Hazara division commissioner.
