Trigger gallops to Pakistan Day Cup triumph

LAHORE: The even-money favourite bay colt Trigger galloped to a sensational victory in the 1,100-metre Pakistan Day Cup during the Lahore Winter Meeting here at the Racecousre on Sunday.

Trigger, trained by Haji Abid Mahmood and ridden by jockey M. Hanif, won the race in decisive manner as he finished ahead of bay filly Western Lady and bay colt Shaman, respectively, in the sixth race of the day.

Earlier, half-money favourite chestnut colt Jim And Tonic won the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup classic run over 2,000 metres. The colt finished in a record fastest time of two minutes three seconds eclipsing the existing record of three minutes and 3¾ seconds set by Big Bravo in the year 2000.

Jim and Tonic, ridden by regular partner jockey Aamir Pervez and trained by A.B.

Malik, beat Pakistani Star with Raksh third in a run away triumph. Jim and Tonic also extended his unbeaten run with his sixth victory in a row.

The bay colt Black Platinum, who was disappointing runner in the Pakistan Derby earlier this month, found some consolation by winning the Syed Wajid Ali Shah Memorial Cup classic defeating bay filly Leisure Trip with Galactica third.
