422 kite sellers arrested in Sahiwal, Okara
SAHIWAL/OKARA: Police arrested 422 kite sellers in Sahiwal and Okara in the ongoing operation against kite flying.
During the last 36 hours, the Sahiwal police arrested 192 kite sellers, registered 182 cases and confiscated more than 5,000 kites and metal strings, according to District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Shahzad.
He told Dawn that after the Faisalabad incident, a special operation was launched against the kite sellers in the district.
He said cases were registered with the police stations of Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Kameer, Yousafwala and Noor Shah.
He said the station house officer (SHO) concerned would be held accountable if kite-related accident happened in the area under his jurisdictions.
Mr Shahzad requested the motorcyclists, especially the youth, to use safety rods and protection shields while riding motorcycles.
The police also started a social media campaign and installed billboards and hoardings, asking the bikers to take safety precautions. The traffic police distributed pamphlets among motorcyclists.
In Okara, the district police arrested 230 kite sellers and recovered more than 10,000 kites, hundreds of rolls of metal string during the last one week.
