Minister concerned at lack of facilities at public schools

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Sikandar Hayat paid a surprise visit to two schools at Kot Radha Kishan and expressed concern over a lack of basic facilities.

The minister has started surprise visits to monitor the government educational institutions and the facilities provided to students.

During his visit to the government girls and boys high schools at Kot Radha Kishan, Mr Hayat visited their various sections, besides the ongoing examination process.

He expressed his anger over a lack of adequate light, cleanliness and clean drinking water in the classrooms, besides non-functionality of the computer lab and directed the schools’ administration to make it functional immediately. He also announced the installation of a water filtration plant in the school.

He said the surprise visits were aimed to improve the quality of government schools, adding that he would take measures for the improvement of academic activities and provision of adequate facilities to the students.

He also participated in a seminar on “Pakistan’s Curriculum Development” held at the University of Management and Technology and presided over an interactive session with students. He vowed to introduced educational reforms, in consultation with all stakeholders.

He said the students would be imparted modern IT skills, including Robotics and Python etc. He also answered the students’ questions.

Mr Hayat said the government won’t hesitate in continuing a good policy introduced by any party.

“We will come up with a curriculum that will be in tune with the requirements of the modern era,” he said.

He said the government will give 500 scholarships to the youth for higher education.
