Waste management to be outsourced in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR: A plan to outsource the solid waste management operations in Bahawalpur division has been finalised, said divisional Commissioner Nadir Chattha.

The commissioner said this while presiding over a meeting in his office on Saturday, attended by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Anwar Jappa, Local Government director and Bahawalpur Waste Management Company (BWMC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Naeem Akhtar among others.

Rahim Yar Khan DC Khurram Parvez and Bahawalnagar DC Zulfiqar Ali Bhon participated in the meeting through video-link, besides the chief officers of the municipal committees across the division.

The commissioner said the Punjab government has planned to bring a major improvement in the existing waste management system in Bahawalpur division, and other places in the province.

For this purpose, he said, a working plan to enforce the new model of waste management system has been finalised for the division.

Under the plan, he said, the waste management system would be outsources, while a waste segregation plant would be installed to sort the solid waste for recycling purpose in the division.

He said that under the proposed system, the focus would be on seeking cooperation of the community and monitoring teams comprising locals would be formed to evaluate the performance of the government institutions and functionaries in the field, including rural areas.

This system, he claimed, would also help improve air quality index in the cities and villages, in addition to creating new jobs.

PTI CONVENTION: The Pakistan Tahreek-i-Insaf (PTI) organized south Punjab workers’ convention at Vehari on Friday night.

The convention, hosted byMPA Chaudhry Ejaz Bandesha, was addressed by PTI south Punjab president Senator Aon Abbas Buppi and others.

The speakers criticised the government, saying it was formed by “stealing the PTI’s mandate”, demanding it should be returned to the party.

They expressed complete confidence in the leadership of the PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and vowed to continue their struggle under his leadership to seek justice.

The convention was attended by a large number of party workers from across the Vehari district. On the occasion, the PTI workers who were jailed and “victimised” were awarded commendation certificates.
