City police chief removed as CTD head given additional charge

KARACHI: The Sindh government on Saturday removed Karachi police chief Additional Inspector General (Addl. IG) Khadim Hussain Rind and temporarily appointed Imran Yaqoob Minhas in his place.

Mr Rind was appointed the city police chief in September 2023 by the then caretaker government.

A notification issued by Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah on Saturday said that Mr Rind, a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) was transferred and posted with immediate effect and until further orders as Addl. IG (Operations) Sindh.

It further said that Addl. IG Imran Yaqoob Minhas, a BS-21 officer of PSP who is currently heading the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), was assigned “to hold additional charge” of the post of Karachi police chief, in addition to his own duties and till further orders.

It may be recalled that Mr Minhas had served as the city police chief for a brief period in the recent past.
