Opinion: Parents, the symbols of affection

When one thinks of the word ‘parents,’ the first thing that comes to mind is affection. There’s simply no one in the world who can replace them or their love. Those fortunate enough to have parents are indeed the luckiest individuals.

For parents, their children are undeniably their most cherished possessions. Throughout their lives, parents willingly sacrifice their own needs for the sake of their children’s wellbeing. We can hardly fathom the depth of our parents’ unconditional love for us. They work hard and long to see their children thrive and succeed in life, eagerly celebrating every achievement.

Alongside celebrating our successes, parents are also held accountable for our mistakes. We should bear in mind that our well-intentioned parents will always share in the consequences of our mistakes and failures. They cannot bear to see their children endure hardship or pain, and are always ready to offer assistance. Their guidance, stemming from years of experience, is regarded as invaluable wisdom, with which they shape our course of life.

Parents are not just supporters, they are guides, mentors and also our friends. They cannot bear to witness our eyes brim with tears, no matter how big or small our problems. Always ready to console and uplift our spirits, they step forward to fight our battles and stand by us so that we never feel alone or become the victim of any worldly evil.

A mother’s embrace offers solace and comfort in times of distress, while a father’s advice, drawn from his own life experiences, provides practical solutions to our concerns.

The primary aim of parents is to provide their children with a secure and healthy life. Their happiness lies in our contentment and they tirelessly strive to ensure our well-being.

Sometime, when our parents become frustrated and rebuke us for minor mistakes. We should never react aggressively, as it only adds to their distress, keep in mind that they may be going through their inner struggles, which they keep to themselves. Their actions are borne out of love and concern, often followed by heartfelt apologies.

As children, it is mandatory upon us to recognise and appreciate the sacrifices our parents have made for us. We must extend gestures of love and support to alleviate their burdens. This blessing of parental love is to be cherished, for indeed, the wealthiest among us are those who have experienced the affection of their parents.

Someone wise once said, “Behind every young person who believes in themselves is a parent who believed in them first!” And it is so true!
