Minister announces motorway from Mansehra to Skardu

TOBA TEK SINGH: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has announced plan for building a motorway from Mansehra to Gilgit, Babu Sartap and Skardu.

He was addressing the passing-out ceremony of 289 police officers at the National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Training College in Sheikhupura on Monday.

Mr Khan highlighted the plans to deploy the NH&MP in Gwadar and Karakoram. He underlined the importance of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in driving prosperity for Pakistan and reiterated commitments to ensure quality selection and provision of comprehensive training to the officers. He announced an additional one-month extension for training completion and a salary increment for the officers.

The ceremony was attended by Federal Secretary of Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, IG Salman Chaudhry, Additional IG Ali Saber Kayani, Commandant DIG Syed Hashmat Kamal, patrol officers and their families.

MURDERED: A young boy and a girl who had contracted a secret marriage were murdered at Basti Rehanpur of Kabirwala town of district Khanewal.

Police alleged that Sumaira Nawaz was shot dead by Imran on Sunday night. She had contracted a court marriage with him while Imran himself was found murdered on Monday morning.

Police claimed that Sumaira breathed her last on the way to the Kabirwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and she had given a statement against Imran. Surprisingly, police registered her murder case against Imran who himself was found dead by police in the crops on Monday morning.

An uncle of Imran told the media that Imran had secretly contracted marriage with Sumaira but differences had developed between them. He alleged that Imran was killed and he did not commit suicide. He said Imran was shot dead from behind and there were torture marks visible on his back.

Police said a post-mortem would ascertain whether Imran was murdered or he had committed suicide.

Khanewal District Police Officer Rana Umer Farooq tasked a team with probing the double murder case.

BAIL: Gojra Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Zubair Ghouri granted bail before arrest five PTI activists of Gojra in a case registered against them for taking out a rally, blocking the traffic in Sarafa Bazaar and exhibiting weapons four days ago.

They activists included Mahfouz Aslam Dhillon, Azhar Abbas Chattha, Muhammad Arsalan, Zafar Iqbal Warraich and Mian Muhammad Khurram. The judge directed them to file surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
