LONDON: Mr Liaquat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s Prime Minister, today [April 29] warned all the nations of the Commonwealth against “a tendency to take Pakistan for granted”. Addressing a press conference … he … declared: “Pakistan is willing and ready to make a contribution towards the ideals of the Commonwealth, but not as a camp follower.” … Of relations with the Indian Union he said, since the cease-fire in Kashmir there was no more strain. About White Australia policy, the Prime Minister said, he disliked racial discrimination. Mr Liaquat Ali Khan accused Afghanistan of carrying on a “very vicious and false” propaganda campaign against Pakistan. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Karachi,] trade negotiations between Pakistan and the SCAP Mission [Japan] have reached the final stage, it was learned … on Friday [April 29]. The agreement will be subject to ratification by the respective Governments. … It is understood that according to the provisional agreement Pakistan will get capital goods, machinery, textiles and other manufactured goods in return for raw cotton, jute, wool, hides and bones.
