Coast Guards to be modernised to counter smuggling, drug trade: Interior Minister Naqvi

KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced a modernisation drive within the Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) to bolster its capabilities in combating smuggling and drug trafficking.

The minister, who visited the PCG headquarters here, was briefed on the overall operations of the coast guards.

He underscored the pivotal role of the coast guards in curbing illicit drug trade and emphasised the need for modernising their operations.

He recognised the challenges posed by limited resources and pledged to upgrade the coast guards to enhance its effectiveness in countering smuggling activities along coastal regions.

Meeting with Tessori

The interior minister called on Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and discussed with him the overall security situation in the province, particularly Karachi.

According to a statement issued by the Governor House, both sides expressed the resolve to take all-out measure for the maintenance of peace and order in the province.

They also agreed that action against criminal elements must be taken without taken into account their affiliation.
