Big victories for Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi

FAISALABAD: Iram Javed’s half-century steered Lahore to a massive 74-run win over Peshawar in the seventh-round match of the National Women’s One-Day Tournament at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad on Wednesday.

Following a delayed start due to overnight rain, Lahore scored 150 for seven in 29 overs courtesy Iram’s 66-ball 61 laced with seven fours and two sixes. She was later named player-of-the-match.

In reply, Peshawar crashed to 76 all out in 25 overs handing Lahore their seventh consecutive win in the tournament.

Lahore’s Quratulain bagged three wickets for 23 while Anam Amin, Ayesha Bilal and Noreen Yaqoob took two wickets each.

In another match, Karachi outclassed Multan by nine wickets at Bohranwali Ground in Faisalabad.

Electing to bat first after a delayed start due to overnight rain, Multan managed to post a modest 101 for seven in 32 overs.

Karachi’s left-arm spinners Maham Manzoor and Anosha Nasir bagged three and two wickets, respectively.

In reply, Karachi comfortably achieved the target in the 19th over, while losing one wicket in the process. Opener Laiba Fatima struck 59-ball 53 not out studded with 10 boundaries to earn the player-of-the-match award.

Rawalpindi cruised to a nine-wicket win over Quetta to secure their second win in the tournament at the Jawad Sports Complex ground.

The match which was reduced to 40 overs a side due to overnight rain, Quetta after being put in to bat were bundled out for a 53 in 34.1 overs.

Spinners Fatima Zahra and Rida Aslam starred with the ball taking three wickets apiece. In reply, Rawalpindi chased down the target in 23.3 overs for the loss of only one wicket. Fatima was declared player-of-the-match.

QUETTA 53 in 34.1 overs (Fatima Zahra 3-5, Rida Aslam 3-19); RAWALPINDI 54-1 in 23.3 overs (Aima Saleem 24).
