SED asks DEAs to form student councils in schools by 17th

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department (SED) has directed all chief executive officers of district education authorities (DEAs) in the province to form student councils in public schools by May 17.

The department’s notification highlights its commitment to enhancing education across public schools and empowering students through various means. The establishment of student councils in government schools is seen as a crucial step toward fostering learning and leadership capabilities.

To facilitate this process, the department has issued comprehensive guidelines outlining the steps for setting up student councils in government schools. By adhering to these guidelines, schools can create dynamic and efficient student bodies, allowing students to take on leadership roles and make positive contributions within their educational institutions.

The election schedule for student council formation includes announcement of the election schedule on May 6-7, nomination of election candidates on May 8-10, scrutiny of candidates, announcement of final candidates, and hearing of appeals on May 11, and award of election symbols on May 11.

It further includes preparation of posters by candidates on May 12, election campaign and publication of ballot papers and preparations for elections on May 13-15 and the election day will take place, including voting and the announcement of election results, on May 16 while any petitions on election decisions can be filed on May 17.
