LB members ask govt to provide uplift funds

SWABI: Local government representatives on Sunday demanded of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to provide funds to them so they could execute the promised uplift works in their respective constituencies.

Speaking at a meeting, they said their financial position was going from bad to worse as the provincial government had not provided them any funds.

They said they had been elected by the people, who were frequently visiting their houses and hujras and demanding of them to deliver on their election promises.

The local body members said in such a situation their political career was in danger.

Ghulam Haqqani, the Razaar tehsil council chairman, said: “Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government is doing great injustice to us.” He said they had maintained patience for long, but now they were under tremendous public pressure. He said the prevailing circumstances would force them to stage protest demonstrations.

Rahim Jadoon, Topi tehsil council chairman, said that the provincial government would be responsible for consequences if it further delayed the provision of funds to local governments. “We have already given various sacrifices and are ready to render more,” he warned.

WHEAT CROP THRESHING: Panjpir union council jirga members and elders of various other regions have unanimously set wheat threshing price at Rs4,000 per hour, warning that no one would be allowed to violate that rate.

The jirga members said they had arranged eight wheat threshers for the purpose, and the farmers should not pay extra amount. They asked farmers to contact the jirga members if they faced any problem.

Zahoor Malik, the jirga president and general secretary Waqas Khan said if any threshing machine owner charged farmers extra then they should contact them immediately.

Similarly, the elders asked the threshing machine owners not to charge more than the rate fixed.

They also asked the district administration to play its role in enforcing the wheat threshing rates fixed by the jirga.
