Over 200,000 applied for 11,108 constable posts in Sindh police

KARACHI: The Sindh police have received applications from some 200,000 youngsters, who are aspiring to join the force as constable, it emerged on Tuesday.

Officials said that such a large number of men and women submitted their applications in response to a recent advertisement for recruitment of more than 11,108 constables in all ranges of police across Sindh.

As many as 3,885 constables will be recruited for Karachi range alone, they added.

The police have received applications for recruits under different categories, who will be enrolled as constables under the basic pay scale-7 (BPS-7) of the government employment structure, they added.

The recruitment process will begin from May 23 when all applicants would go through physical tests at the designated centres across the province.

Under the plan announced by the Sindh police for the Karachi police force, the law-enforcement agency would induct 3,885 youngsters as constables from all city districts. Among them, 583 openings have been dedicated for women and 194 for members of minority communities.

“Similarly, for Hyderabad Range, a total of 3,322 police constables will be inducted, including 498 women and 166 from minorities,” said an official.

“Under the Sindh police organisational structure, Hyderabad Range includes nine districts, which are: Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Dadu, Jamshoro, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin.

“For Shaheed Benazirabad Range, which includes districts Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar and Naushahro Feroze, a total of 552 police constables will be recruited, including 82 women and 28 members of minority communities.”

The law enforcement agency had already advertised the procedure of application for the applicants who could file their requests online by April 23.

With an increase of over 15 per cent, the Sindh government in June 2023 had allocated Rs143.568 billion in the head of law and order in its budget for fiscal year 2023-24 compared to Rs124.87bn allocated in the last fiscal year.

While aiming at adopting modern and international practices like Safe City project, DNA tests facility, procurement of transport and arms and ammunition, the budget also earmarked allocations for fresh recruitment.

“The fresh recruitment would be the first batch of total induction in the Sindh police approved for the year 2024,” said the official. “The total number of recruitment for 2024 is 27,065.”

In total, 6,878 constables would be inducted solely for the Karachi police. “With induction of 6,878 personnel in Karachi this year, the size of the total city force will increase to 51,639, which current stands at 44,761,” the official said.
