Slow pace of work on Karimabad underpass irks minister

KARACHI: Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani on Wednesday took notice of the slow pace of work to construct the Karimabad underpass and directed the authorities to take measures to complete the project of public importance on time.

The LG minister said this while talking to the media at the site of the Karimabad underpass in district Central.

The minister also visited and reviewed work on Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan, Bakhtiari Youth Centre, Allama Rashid Turabi Road, etc.

During his visit, the LG minister was accompanied by Pakistan Peoples Party-Sindh secretary general Waqar Mehdi, Senator Masroor Ahsan and other party leaders.

Ghani says Malir Expressway will be completed by June 2025

The minister expressed annoyance over the slow pace of work on the Karimabad underpass.

He asked the authorities concerned to remove all obstacles in the way of the project and expedite the work so that it could be completed as soon as possible to save the public from inconvenience.

Mr Ghani instructed the project director and other officers to open the projects which had been completed to facilitate public.

The LG minister also gave instructions to the officials to complete the sewerage and storm water drains in the ongoing projects first.

Malir Expressway

During his visit to the Malir Expressway to review the ongoing work, he said that it was a wonderful project of the provincial government starting from Qayyumabad to Kathor on M-9 motorway.

He said that a portion of the 39-km-long expressway up to Quaidabad would be completed and opened for public by Aug 14.

He said that the remaining part of the expressway would be completed by June 2025. “Once this project is completed, the people of the city will be able to reach Kathor in half an hour,” he added.

He said that the provincial government was making all-out efforts to serve the citizens of Karachi and more uplift plans were being made for the people of the city.

Besides Mr Mehdi, MPA Farooq Awan, Korangi Town chairman Muhammad Naeem Sheikh, Malir Expressway project director Niaz Soomro and others were also present.

Earlier, he visited the Korangi causeway project to review the ongoing work there and sought details from the officials concerned.

The provincial minister was informed that the work on the causeway was also going on, but due to some reasons in its layout plan, the work had been stopped due to some reasons and it would be resumed in the next few days.

The LG minister instructed the officials concerned to not only complete the work on time.
