Kharlachi border closed for second day
KURRAM: Pak-Afghan border crossing at Kharlachi in Kurram tribal district remained closed for the second consecutive day on Wednesday as the Afghan forces continued firing from across the border.
Local residents said that the Afghan forces opened fire in Spina Shaga area, forcing closure of the Kharlachi point for movement between the neighbouring countries.
On Tuesday, sources said that four security personnel were injured in a cross-border attack on checkpoints in Kurram. They claimed that 12 suspected attackers were reportedly killed in retaliation.
The checkpoints in Teri Mangal area of Kurram, which borders Afghanistan’s Khost, Paktia and Nangarhar provinces, were fired upon from across the border, the sources said.
The attack, launched with heavy weapons late into the night, targeted security installations, the sources claimed, adding that the Pak-Afghan border was closed following the attack.
