Menace of nepotism

THIS is with reference to the report ‘Sindh varsity confirms ex-PSB director general has fake degree’ (May 1). There was nothing strange in the news, related to a former director-general of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), because fake domiciles and degrees are easily available, and this business has been flourishing for years.

The said official was appointed to the post in April 2023, being a close friend of the appointing authority, and was dismissed from the post a year later, the reason for his dismissal having not been made public. Interestingly, his successor is also in office on a stay order issued by the Islamabad High Court. The mess created by nepotism affects not just the top management, but its effects also go down below in the selection of teams and other officials. This explains the decline in the country’s performances in Asian Games and other international events.

It is high time the credentials of all the officials working at senior positions in governments and corporations were checked and posting of political blue-eyed at positions of significance was avoided.
