Website review: Type like a pro

Writing, whether by hand on paper or by typing on a keyboard, is a basic skill that allows us to communicate our thoughts, ideas and knowledge. However, in today’s fast-paced digital world, typing has become an essential skill that one must have. There is no doubt that today’s generation has learnt skills on their own by taking notes during lectures on laptops or tablets, drafting essays, or through messaging apps, but being proficient at typing is different, it’s a skill that makes you a pro at typing and you can save precious time and energy without looking down at the keyboard. But those who struggle at typing, fret not, because we’ve got you covered with TypeLit.io — a unique website that makes it easy and fun for you to learn typing, not only at your own pace, but also gradually increasing your words per minute (WPM) speed.

You might think TypeLit.io is just a regular typing website, but it’s not! It’s a fun way to learn typing. You can sign up to track your progress or just keep practicing as a guest, it’s your choice. Once you’re in, you can pick from lots of different literary works, from genres like drama, fiction, horror, tragedy, comedy, etc. After selecting a book, pick a chapter and you’re ready to go. A new page will open where you’ll see a ‘words per minute’ counter above the chapter text.

As you type, the highlighted words will turn green. Keep track of punctuation, capitalisation, etc. If you miss or type incorrectly, it will turn red. You can continue typing, or go back and correct by pressing backspace and rewriting that word or phrase.

Additionally, you are given the choice to select background and font colours that suit your preferences. You can also choose cursor type and whether to ignore capitalisation, punctuation, and many other functionalities from the settings. So, it’s a site full of customisable features to suit your preferences and enhance your typing skills.

The main goal of the site is to make you faster at typing. The time limits make you practice typing quickly. It turns writing practice into a fun competition against the clock and yourself.

For paid subscribers, there are ‘Writing Sprints’, where they are given thought-provoking writing prompts to race against the clock to write and type as much as they can in response within a set time limit. But as most of us don’t opt for paid versions, let’s stick to the simple typing exercises.

In my opinion, the site is addictive. Once you start, you’ll never want to stop; the counter at the top keeps pushing your limits, and you will be amazed at how much faster your words per minute become.
