Imambargah custodian wounded in ‘targeted attack’
KARACHI: The custodian of an imambargah was shot at and critically wounded in a suspected targeted attack in the Ancholi area on Monday, police said.
The Samanabad police said that a lone assailant riding a motorbike fired at Hyder Ameer Ali, 40, when he was about to enter his home in Federal B Area’s Block 20.
He suffered two bullet wounds in the neck and chest and was shifted to the Aga Khan University Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
A police spokesperson said that the wounded man was the custodian of the Imambargah Ali Asghar, which he had established at the ground floor of his home.
Central SSP (Investigation) Kanwar Asif said that it appeared to be a targeted attack as the assailant did not attempt to loot him.
However, he added that it would be ascertained after investigations as to whether the attack was motivated by personal, sectarian or political considerations.
He said that the man was not in a position to give a statement to the police.
Meanwhile, Karachi president of the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) Allama Sadiq Jaffery strongly condemned the incident and called upon the government to bring the perpetrators to justice.
