CM launches project to make city eco-friendly

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday launched a pilot project to make Lahore eco-friendly.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated LDA Avenue-1 Central Park project, covering an area of 87 kanals, and planted a sapling there.

Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director General Tahir Farooq briefed the CM about the project, upgraded LDA enforcement squad and other steps taken to protect and beautify the environment.

The CM was also briefed that a jogging track, walkways with solar lights, children’s play area, an open gym and a badminton court, besides a cafeteria, mosque and a rose garden, besidesa model cemetery, had been established in the LDA Avenue-1 Central Park.

Moreover, the LDA DG said, specific vending points have been set up for the purchase of food items, while arrangements for the rainwater harvesting and cycling have also been made.

He said the LDA enforcement squad is being supplied with new uniforms, equipment and machinery.

The chief minister visited the vending points of LDA Avenue-1, where fruits and vegetables were available for sale on clean and newly designed carts.

“It’s a good arrangement, but I will come and check it again sometime,” she said.

She gave keys of new bikes to the LDA’s enforcement squad on this occasion.

Meanwhile, the CM chaired a meeting of the housing department to have a briefing on “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar (Own Roof, Own House)” project.

Housing Secretary Asadullah Khan apprised the CM of the progress made so far on the project. The CM directed the department to expedite the project work.
