Shangla police arrest man for assaulting minor boy

SHANGLA: The police on Sunday arrested a man for assaulting a minor boy in Kekor area of Kana tehsil here.

The accused was recently released from jail where he was lodged in a similar case in February.

District police officer Imran Khan said the accused, identified as Saeed Ajmal, had picked a minor boy on his bike to a stream, where he allegedly assaulted him.

Olandar police station SHO Saeed Mehmood Khan told Dawn by phone that the accused had been arrested, while the victim was sent to the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri, for medical examination.

He said the accused was a habitual abuser and had been arrested in a similar case in February. He was later released after patch up with the victim’s family.

The SHO said they had lodged an FIR against the accused under the Child Protection Act and began further investigation into the case, saying the charge of assault would be confirmed after the medical report that was likely to be received today (Monday).

Meanwhile, Shangla district and sessions judge on Saturday rejected the bail plea of three accused, who were arrested for attempting to assault a schoolboy earlier this month in Maira area of Bisham tehsil.

A statement issued by the DPO office on Sunday said with efforts of the investigation team, the judge rejected the bail plea of the accused for second time in the case and sent them to jail.

Separately, a suspect arrested in the murder case of his brother has confessed to killing him.

The accused, Mohammad Suliman, had strangulated his brother in Dandai area in February to marry his wife.

SHO Mohammad Arif Khan said body of Mohammad Rehman of Mansehra was found in his pickup van on February 22.

Father of the deceased reported to the police his son was probably murdered by his in-laws with the help of his other son.

SHO Arif said after the complaint, the police arrested the accused from Mansehra. He added the police after interrogating the accused and wife of the deceased, reached the conclusion that he was killed by his own brother as he wanted to marry his wife.

He said Suliman confessed he strangled his brother with the help of his sister-in-law and her brothers, Abdul Majeed and Ali Akbar.
