Rally for a raise in wages, pension

LAHORE: Power workers staged a rally on Tuesday for a raise in wages and pension in the forthcoming budget.

The rally held under the auspices of the All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union was led by union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad.

Carrying banners in support of their demands, the workers urged the prime minister and all the chief

ministers to raise wages and pension of all workers by 50 per cent commensurate with price hike.

The said the government should raise productivity of Discos to provide cheap electricity to the nation as Wapda has been providing electricity at the rate of Rs5.50 per unit while IPPs were providing the same for Rs50.

The power workers also demanded performance allowance like the previous years on Eidul Azha.

They condemned genocide of Gaza people, including women and children, by Israel.
