Pakistan Cables’ solar plant

Pakistan Cables commissioned its two-megawatt (MW) captive solar power plant at its new manufacturing facility in Nooriabad, Sindh, as per a press release. Executed by Atlas Energy Limited, the project commenced operations on April 23, 2024. It is an investment in renewable energy initiative by Pakistan Cables, the first and only building material company in Pakistan to have science-based emission reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

“We are committed to pursuing environmentally friendly initiatives in the future at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Nooriabad, Sindh,” said Fahd Chinoy, CEO of Pakistan Cables Ltd. “We actively advocate using renewable energy sources that save cost and contribute to the circular economy.”

ICMA’s new appointees

Shehzad Ahmed Malik was re-elected president of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMA), as per a press release. The National Council of ICMA also elected Muhammad Yasin, vice president, Shaham Ahmed, honorary secretary, and Maryam Parvaiz, honorary treasurer.

Mr Malik currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Shehzad Malik Management Consultants Pvt Ltd. He has also held significant roles within ICMA, such as vice president and honorary secretary.

SPL signs MoU for kidney treatment

Mr Imran Qureshi, CEO of Security Papers Limited (SPL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dr Abdul Bari Khan, President of Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN).

Under the MoU’s terms, SPL will donate Rs5 million towards the purchase of two dialysis machines for IHHN, increasing its capacity to provide lifesaving dialysis treatment to patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. This reflects SPL’s commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Nestle’s inaugurates water facility

Federal Minister for Planning & Development Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry inaugurated Nestlé Pakistan’s clean and safe drinking water facility in Narowal, which aims to cater to more than 10,000 people in the district as per a press release.

The Narowal plant, which uses sustainable practices to minimise its environmental footprint, will use ultrafiltration water treatment technology that can supply up to 3,000 litres of clean water per hour.

K-Electric’s HSE performance report

K-Electric (KE) has been recognised as an outstanding performer in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards within the power sector, according to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority’s (NEPRA) “2024 HSE Performance Evaluation Report,” as per a press release.

Reportedly, KE achieved impressive scores in HSE standards, scoring 96.5 in generation, 95 in transmission and 88 in distribution.

“Safety, innovation, and sustainability are at the heart of KE’s operations,” said Moonis Abdullah Alvi, CEO of K-Electric. While KE’s Roshni Baji Programme continues its impactful third year, it has extended electrical safety education to nearly 60,000 children through extensive school outreach programmes.

Power of AI

Experts urged industry and academia to adopt the latest tools and solutions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance research, development and productivity in every field, including business and academics, states a press release.

Speaking at the seminar “Emerging Trends in Social Science Studies,” organised by the University of Karachi, experts said the field of artificial intelligence will continue to explore new domains to assist human efforts in achieving productivity with maximum accuracy and efficiency in a short span of time, hence utilising it will give a competitive edge to its users on a long-term basis whether it is industry or media.

They said AI will replace various jobs and trades inevitably in future but at the same time it will provide opportunities for human beings to switch their roles by acquiring more productive and facilitative roles.

CEO Proxima Dr Adnan Zaidi, Hexalyze Consultant Dr Umair Arif, Chairperson Mass Communication Dr Fauzia Naz, and Dr Rana Afzal were the speakers.
