Diplomat’s car hits, injures constable in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: A police constable sustained injuries after being hit by a speeding car driven by a British diplomat on Monday.
Police officers told Dawn that after the incident the police impounded the official car owned by the UK High Commission driven by the country’s third secretary.
The incident took place at Radio Pakistan Chowk on Constitution Avenue where traffic was being manually managed due to power suspension at the time.
A police constable attached with the Security Division was moving towards Radio Pakistan Chowk on a motorcycle from Isphani Road when his side was open to traffic.
The diplomat was moving in her official Honda car on Constitution Avenue from D-Chowk when the traffic from her side was stopped manually by an ITP official.
However, the diplomat jumped the close signal and hit the constable. As a result, he sustained injuries and fell on the road. ITP and area police officials impounded the car and shifted the injured to hospital. The constable was identified as Amir Dad.
A police spokesman confirmed that the driver was a third secretary at the British High Commission. He said the police impounded the official car for legal action.
The car driver was allowed to go after she introduced herself as a diplomat, the spokesman said. The constable was shifted to Polyclinic and later taken to Pims for medical tests. His condition seemed to be stable, he added.
