Punjab teachers threaten sit-in
RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Teachers Association (PTA) on Monday threatened to stage a sit-in in front of Parliament House on June 10 if the provincial government failed to stop its plan to privatise schools and increase their salaries.
Raja Shahid Mubarik, PTA Secretary General, said the PML-N Punjab had failed to fulfill its promises and did not increase salaries of teachers. “We oppose the plan of privatisation of government schools as there are reports that the government is planning to hand over the schools to NGOs and terminate services of teachers,” he said.
The government should also withdraw its notification to end leave encashment. “The government teachers saved their leaves and got cash in lieu of it after retirement but the government ended this facility on the pressure of the International Monetary Fund,” he said.
