Gusty winds, moderate rain hit Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Gusty winds coupled with moderate rain hit Hyderabad, damaging infrastructure of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) on Sunday.

Airport office of the metrological department recorded the wind speed at 35 nautical miles per hour.

According to Hesco spokesman Sadiq Kubar, five towers of 132 kV transmission lines fell on ground in the Bhago Throo mountain area between the Sehwan and Shalmani reach and another 13 poles of 132kV transmission lines in the Khanote Shalmani area.

He said 34 feeders of 11kV in Hyderabad city tripped due to the damage. Power supply would be restored soon, he hoped. He said that strong winds uprooted 45 poles of 11kV line between Sann, Manjhand and Amri area.

The spokesman said that the rehabilitation work was under way under the supervision of Hesco chief Roshan Otho.

The winds and rainfall started at around 5pm and continued for some time. The rain has changed weather conditions in the city where people had been experiencing sizzling heat after heatwave of May 21 to May 30.
