Students, parents oppose transfer of centennial school principal

CHITRAL: The students and parent-teacher council (PTC) of Government Centennial Model School Chitral have opposed the transfer of school’s principal Fazle Subhan, who, they claimed, brought about a tangible improvement in the institution during his one-and-half-year of posting.

The chairman of PTC, Rafiullah, told journalists at Chitral Press Club on Sunday that parents were dejected over the unwarranted and ill-timed transfer of Fazle Subhan, who was one of the best principals in the school’s history.

He said that the increase in enrolment during the last two academic sessions and migration of students from private schools to centennial model school were clear indicators of his performance.

Mr Rafiullah, a former director of education, said that the principal was removed at a critical time when enrolment season was in progress and activities of new academic year were in full swing.

He said that the former principal was posted to teachers training centre in Drosh where there were no academic activities while the school was left without a head.

He demanded of chief minister and minister for education to look into the transfer of principal.

Earlier, the students of the school staged a protest demonstration in front of Chitral Press Club and demanded cancellation of the transfer order of their principal.

They said that they developed affection with the principal for his excellent character as he made their school a great institution of the city. Many of the protesters said that they migrated to the school from leading private schools when its standard of academics went vertically upward.

They said that the news of the transfer of their favourite principal sent shock waves across students of the school.

The district education officer of Lower Chitral, Mehmood Ghaznavi, when contacted, said that he had nothing o do with the transfer and posting of a BPS-20 officer to the schools of his district.

He said that Fazle Subhan was in BPS-20 and there were two vacant posts for that grade in Lower Chitral, one was at the school from where he was transferred and the other at Regional Professional Development Centre, Drosh, where he was transferred.
